Poem Responses

Abraham Attah  IB Literature & Performance  Ms. Guarino  Due October 25, 2019  When I first read “ I, Too,” my first impression was what was going on in the poem because I didn’t understand anything that I was reading. But as I kept on reading it, I knew it had something to do with African Americans because it says, “ I am the darker brother” in the second line of the poem. I also knew it had something related to an African America because the first line of the poem was, “ I, too, sing America.” I had to read it five times to understand what the narrator was saying in the poem.  It took me a while to understand the narrator’s tone of anger and seeking of acceptance because he was part of something that didn’t want him and treated him differently because of his skin color. I realized that “I, Too” at the beginning of the poem stated that the narrator hopes and believes that one day, the discrimination towards the black community will come to an en...

Poem Analysis

Abraham Attah IB Literature & Performance Ms. Guarino Due October 14, 2019 When I first listened to “Open Letter” by Lil Wanye, I felt like I knew what he was going through or how he felt when he wrote the song “Open Letter.” The poet Lil Wanye did a great job expressing his feelings ‘emotional’ and thought through the song. Open Letter talks about how people feel about being lonely or left out in the world. This poem shows that when you notice that someone is feeling lonely or left out of something, you should go up to them and make sure they feel welcome and that they are supported. Feeling lonely or left out of things is the worst thing a person could feel. You feel like nobody cares about you or loves you. The poet talks about how his life, and how he thought that some people were just around him or loved him because of what he had. There's a line in the poem that says, “ Sometimes our loved ones don't love us. They care more about how much I leave them, where...

Reflection

I think my group had an excellent performance. We worked hard to for this performance, but I feel like we could have done better if we had more time. We took our time to practice our lines and learn them. I will say memorizing our lines was the hardest thing for us to do as a group and performing it is the easiest. We will able to add our stuff to the lines. We changed some of the lines into our language. Our performance is fascinating to watch because my group was diverse, so we turn some of the things into our language, and second, it was different from the other groups' performance. I think everything in the class worked for my group because we were able to pull off a remarkable achievement. The other groups' performance was good, but I think they could have made it better.
