Poem Performances Reflection

The first poem performance that I chose was "The Everyday Enchantment of music," and Dasha and Mike performed it.  The original poem talks about how the music was created from sound and polished until it became music. The group had something completely different. They didn't use any lines from the poem but gave the audience's understanding of it. They showed how important music is in our daily lives and how it has a significant impact on us. The performances were able to keep eye contact with the audience. They didn't stare at the floor or use any paper. Having eye contact with an audience is one of the most aspects of performing. It captures their attention. The second poem that I chose was "I, Too," and Dylin performed it with some group of guys. The original poem talks about how African-American were not accepted in society. The narrator's tone at the beginning of the poem was anger and seeking acceptance. But at the same time, there was hope that everything was going to be okay with the African-American community and that they will be accepted in society. The performances showed how important being accepted in society was, and how people feel when they're not allowed. They were able to show how the narrator was feeling when the company came around and told him to go to the kitchen. They also show how the narrator decided to stay the second time when the company came around and told him to leave, but he said no and decided to stay. They had something different at the end of their performance compared to what was in the ending of the poem. I didn't have hope at the end of their performance but anger. Both groups did a great job with their performances.
