Christopher's Life

I saw Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time on the 15th of November 2019 in the black box theater of Cheshire Academy. Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is a play based on the novel by a British author Mark Haddon. Simon Stephens adapts the play from a novel by Mark Haddon. The Cheshire Academy drama group performed this play and killed it. Jennifer Guarino and Benjamin Hunton directed the show. The main characters for the show were Amelia Williams, who plays Christopher, Willjam Lempling plays Christopher's father Ed, Pacifica Yang plays his mother Judy, Olivia Williamson plays his teacher Siobhan, and Ben Goth plays the policeman.
The play was about a fifteen-year-old boy named Christopher with autism who was seen lying next to a dead dog with a fork sticking out of it. The dog's name is wellington, and it belongs to Christopher's neighbor Mrs. Shears. Mrs. Shears came out of her house, shouting at Christopher, accusing him of killing her dog. The police later arrived and took Christopher into the station for feather questioning about the dead dog. Christopher lives with his father, Ed, and he thinks his mother is dead from a heart attack at the hospital.
Trust and relationship with one another were the major themes in this play. Relationship with one another stands out the most because everything in the play was based on the relationships the main character Christopher had with other people. Because he was an autistic kid, he processed things differently, and it was hard for him to maintain a healthy relationship with other people. There were struggles between his family; society viewed him different; his mom couldn't expect that he had autism.
The staging for the play was well planned and executed. I like how the performance took place in a black box theater. It brought the audience close to the action and helped them experience it more. The spotlights were very interesting to see. It changes every time there is a different kind of emotions going on. An example will be when Christopher was searching through his father's stuff and finds out all the letters his mother has been writing to him. He was sad and hurt, so the color of the lights was blue and a little shade of red. It made the scene so powerful because it drew the audience in to see what was going to happen next.
I think Willjam Lempling had the best performances. He played Ed, Christopher's father. He brought the character to live and was able to make the audience feel the character and delivered his lines very well. I enjoyed watching the play, and I was impressed by the Cheshire Academy drama group. They did a great job.
