I saw Mamma Mia on the 29th of February 2020 in the Black Box theater of Cheshire Academy. The Academy drama group did an excellent job performing it, and Jennifer Guarino and Benjamin Hunton did an incredible job directing this wonderful play. The main characters of the show were Elena Parkerson, who plays Donna, Audra Foti plays Donna's daughter Sophie. Tony Wang plays Harry, one of the three guys Donna had sexual intercourse with when she was young before giving birth to Sophie. The other two guys she had sexual intercourse with were Sam, who was played by Jackson Rafferty and Bill, played by Nate Biller. Trevor Hampson plays Sky Sophie's boyfriend.

When Donna was young, she had sexual intercourse with three different guys on the same Island and got pregnant without any of the guys knowing about it. Sophie's 20 now and getting married to Sky wants to know who her Dad is, so she read her mom's diary and invited all these three men Harry, Sam, and Bill that her mom had sex with to her wedding without her mom "Donna" knowing about it. Sophie got caught in a situation when she accepted all three proposals of Sam, Harry, and Bill to walk her down the aisle as her father.
Love and Honesty were the major themes in this play. Love played a huge role in this play. You could witness the love Sophie had for Sky, her mother, and her father(s). Even though she was so young, she was so in love with Sky and wanted to marry him. You could also see this with Donna after years Sam has been away. They still had feelings for each other and decided to do something about it.
The staging for the play was well planned and executed. I like how the performance took place in a black box theater bringing the audience close to experience the show more. The spotlight was perfect. I love how it was colorful when some singing or dancing is going on or when someone was happy. The set designer did a great job with the painting of the background and also making sure everything there was colorful to show the joy going on. The costume designer did a great job with the kind of outfit he or she picked for the characters to wear. The costumes the main characters had on at the end of the show, show the love, joy, and happiness everybody had. One moment I enjoyed in the show was when Donna and her two close friends were performing the night before the wedding.
I think Audra Foti had the best performance playing Sophie. She brought the character to life and had the energy for it. Her lines were delivered very well, and I enjoyed how she was able to let the audience feel the presence of her character. I enjoyed this show very much. I love the sense of humor that was in the show. I'm impressed by the effort the Cheshire Academy drama group put in this show.
